LASER TREATMENT – HOMECARE INSTRUCTIONS
You’ve just received an oral laser treatment - Now what?
GENERAL CARE
- Dental laser treatments result in little to no discomfort. You can take pain relievers if needed.
- One of the most important results of laser therapy is the healing that occurs following the initial procedure. It is VERY important NOT to dislodge the sticky blood that is formed around the treated area.
HYGIENE MAINTENANCE
- Brush the treated area GENTLY for one week after treatment. Light, manual brushing is recommended in the treated area.
- DO NOT USE electric toothbrushes during the first week. Brush by placing the manual toothbrush bristles on the gum below the tooth and carefully roll the bristles towards the tooth’s surface.
- Floss gently between the teeth above the gum to dislodged trapped food. Avoid oral hygiene tools that clean below the gum line – NO WATERPIK.
- Resume all normal oral hygiene techniques after one week.
EATING
- First 24 hours - Avoid acidic, spicy, rough or crunchy foods for the day of treatment – no chips and salsa, hard/crusty bread, crispy foods, vinegar-based salad dressing, popcorn, nuts, etc.
- After 24 hours - Resume normal eating habits the day after treatment.
