Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear aligners instead of braces to shift your teeth into position gradually. At Koski DePaul Dental Group, these aligners are custom-made for you and fit snugly over your teeth, making them virtually invisible to others. Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks before being switched out for a new set of trays. As you progress through your treatment, you’ll see changes in the alignment of your teeth and a reduction in overcrowding or gaps.
How Does Invisalign Works?
Our dentist will take impressions of your teeth and use a scanner to create 3D images of your mouth. These images will be used to develop a treatment plan to straighten your smile over time. Your clear aligners will be molded to fit the shape of your teeth and will be designed to move teeth into their desired position over time. You will need to wear your aligners for 22 hours a day to get the best results, though you can remove them to eat, brush your teeth, or for other special occasions.
You will need to visit the dentist every four to six weeks to monitor your progress and receive your next set of aligners. Once your treatment is complete, you must wear a retainer to maintain your new smile.
Benefits of Invisalign
- Fewer office visits and checkups are required with Invisalign than braces because there are no wires to tighten or brackets to clean around. The clear plastic trays are removable, so you can enjoy all your favorite foods during treatment and clean your teeth usually.
- Invisalign is more comfortable than traditional braces because the aligner trays are smooth plastic without sharp metal edges that can irritate your cheeks or gums. Traditional braces are also very noticeable compared to clear aligners that are nearly invisible when worn.
- Unlike braces, Invisalign aligners are removable for cleaning your teeth and eating your favorite foods. You take them out before eating and put them back in after brushing your teeth. You’ll also be able to brush and floss as you usually would to maintain good oral health throughout the treatment.
- Removable aligners mean that you can still enjoy playing sports without the worry of a mouth injury from your brackets or wire. You can even play wind instruments like your flute or clarinet without worrying about them tangled in your braces.
